| Interpretation |
Individuals with low levels of RBC G6-PD deficiency include: analgesics/antipyretics: aspirin; sulfa drugs: sulfapyridine, sulfa drugs: sulfapyridine, sulfisoxazole; antimalarias: primaquine, pentaquine, quinine; nitrofurantoin; Chloromycetin, quinidine, para-ainosalicyclic acid;others. Deficient or absent RBC enzyme activity may relate to absence of or decreased level of the enzyme, presence of an inactive molecular form or of an isoenzymes with altered activity. Glutathione reductase deficiency also occurred in some cases of malnutrition, liver disease, and sepsis. |
