| Physiology |
Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) has become an established procedure for defining the etiology of pulmonary infections. It is particularly useful for recovering opportunistic pathogens (Pneumocystis, Histoplasma capsulatum, Candida sps, Aspergillus sp., Mycobacterium sp., ) from immunocompromised patients.
