| Indication |
Anaerobic culture is indicated only if brain abscess, subdural empyema, or epidural abscess is suspected or in the presence of a primary anaerobic infection at another site which is suspected of involving the central nervous system.

Common conditions associated with central nervous system anaerobic infections include otitis media, lung and pleural infections, sinusitis, oral infections, and congenital heart disease.
