Hundreds of curious people are thronging to watch the 16 feet high Buckingham Palace model put on display at the 36th annual Nilgiri's Cake Exhibition being held here.

And, this year, the cynosure of eyes is the Buckigham Palace shaped model cake, structured from sugar sans any external reinforcement.

"This year we have made the Buckingham Palace which is measuring 58 feet in width, 16 feet in height and 15 kilograms in weight. We have used about 8 tonnes of sugar and totally 20,000 man hours have been put in to make this model," said C. Ramachandran, Director, Nilgiri's Dairy Farm, Bangalore.

Nilgiri's Cake Exhibition, which commenced on Friday (Dec.19), is a major draw for aficionados of cakes and pastries. People are making beeline to watch, relish and buy out of a wide varieties of cakes available at the exhibition.

In the past, Nilgiri's Cake Exhibition showcased an exotic range of cakes modelled after the new Seven Wonders of the World. Among other cake models have been the World Trade Centre, Eiffel Tower and Mysore Palace.

For over three decades, Niligiri's Cake Exhibition has become a milestone in the saga of modern Bangalore, usually hosted a week prior to every Christmas and it remains open till the New Year eve.

The first edition this famed cake show was held in 1969.

The cake exhibition has also been listed in the Limca Book of Records and would have found an entry the Guinness Almanac of World Records too but for the absence of specific category of cake exhibitions.
