Latest statistics reveal that more than half the population in New South Wales is suffering from obesity.More than 51% of the 30,000 people who were interviewed this year have confessed that they are overweight. This reflects that there is almost 10%increase in obesity in NSW over the last decade.

This year’s population survey also brings to light that most of the obese people in NSW are between the ages of 45 and 64.

The ministry of Health represented by Health minister John Hatzistergos voiced their concern about the rising percentile of the obese as the it could be the tip of an iceberg heralding a spectrum of health disorders like heart disease, stroke and diabetes which are interlinked with obesity. The Health minister has urged the Health department to take immediate action to tackle the same.
