Waltz for a steady pulse!

by Monisha on Nov 13 2006 7:05 PM

Here’s a piece of hearty news for cardiac patients who still would love to have a go at the dance floor! It takes two to tango! And doctors have news that will sweep you off your feet!

Recent studies have shown that cardiac patients who were assigned waltz classes randomly showed remarkable improvement in functional measures and quality of life than those cardiac patients assigned to cardiac rehabilitation that chiefly involves treadmills and exercise bikes announced an Italian doctor at the American Heart association meeting this week.

This report suggests that dancing could very well replace some of the other traditional rehabilitation options since its so much more fun and enjoyable encouraging patients to complete the rehabilitation program. Waltzing was chosen as the dance of choice as it is a slow dance said Dr. Belardinelli as it is more effective.

However it is to be noted that these observations are still in an abstract level which needs more clinical evidence before consideration for clinical application.
