A New ‘Face’ in Life….

by Medindia Content Team on Nov 29 2006 12:13 PM

Isabelle Dinoire’s countenance has changed 360 degrees in comparison to how she looked just 10 months ago, and now she becomes the first patient in the world to undergo a partial face transplant.

The surgery which was performed a year ago, combined the dexterity of a 50 member team, who called the transplant a successful one, as the patient has recovered very well.

Miss Dinoire, 39, was badly mauled on the face by her pet Labrador, leaving her horrified and completely disfigured in the face. Now, immensely happy with the outcome of the operation, and wishing prospective patients that are considering such an operation, she said, 'There will be no regrets for the person who undergoes this operation. I wish them all the luck in the world. I have been saved. It's wonderful. It's a miracle somehow.'

Professor Bernard Devauchelle, one of the surgeons who executed the partial transplant in Amiens, northern France, said 'She feels hot and cold like you or me. She leads a pretty normal life. She goes for walks, does her housework, and goes to restaurants, smokes, drinks, but not too much. We have made it very clear that a face reconstruction is also a social reconstruction. Of course her life will never be the same as it before, for hundreds of reasons. When she's content there's a lovely smile which you can see on her face. The emotions create an expression. When she’s happy, one can read it on her face.'
