Sri Lanka's gold hope in the Doha Asian Games suffered a major blow as Olympic bronze medallist Susanthika Jayasinghe is suffering from viral flu.

Maxwell de Silva, the deputy chef de mission of Sri Lanka, said that the 31-year-old Sri Lankan sprint queen failed to come with them to Doha due to a health problem but De Silva was hopeful that Jayasinghe will make a speedy recovery and will be with the team by Friday, when the Games start.

Jayasinghe is suffering from viral flu chikungunya and will be out for at least a week, according to a Sri Lankan official.

Even if Jayasinghe recovered within a week, she will not have adequate time to train and catch her lost workouts to be fit for the women's 100m and 200m races, which may be her last chance to prove herself in the Asiad.

Despite winning medals at the Olympic and World Championships,Jayasinghe is yet to win an Asian Games gold medal in her pet event of women's 200m.

Besides Jayasinghe, three Sri Lanka sprinters-Damayanthi Darsha,Sugath Tillakaratne and J.M.S.Weerasuriya -have already been ruled out of the Games due to injuries.
