Vice President Urges Dental Institutes to Adopt Some Villages

by Medindia Content Team on Dec 4 2006 6:23 PM

The Vice-President Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, has said that in India where 30 crore people still live below poverty line with attendant problems of malnutrition, illiteracy, lack of sanitation, we have to consider ways and means that providing dental care becomes affordable for even to deprived sections of the society. He expressed his confidence that Dental Institutes will consider adopting some villages to make dental care accessible to the poor section of society.

Shri Shekhawat, while inaugurating the newly constructed Dr. Harbans Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences and Hospital at Chandigarh today complimented Dr. Harbans Singh Judge, a professional Dentist, a philanthropist and a noble human being for contributing his life’s entire savings for establishing this Institute. He also felicitated Shri Pawan Kumar Bansal, the Union Minister of State for Finance for his generous contribution from the MPLAD fund for this Institute.

Shri Shekhawat hailed Chandigarh as a beautifully planned cosmopolitan city, with a premier University, a Post Gradute Institute for Medical Sciences of international repute, Colleges for Homeopathy and Ayurveda, besides many other modern institutions and facilities. Addition of a Dental Hospital and Institute has fulfilled a long felt need of the city, he added.

The Vice President has said that dentists are engaged in doing great service to the humanity. They are great pain-healers. Of all the pains in life, the suffering of pain in the tooth is perhaps the most unbearable. He quoted Shakespeare who had said, “There was never yet philosopher that could endure the toothache patiently”. When a dentist with his soothing touch calms down this pain, the patient looks upon him as a God with ever abiding respect.

While greeting the student of the first batch, Shri Shekhawat hoped that they should give this Institution a brand image and set up the right traditions for the successive batches. He urged them to take maximum advantage of the excellent learning opportunities that this Institute offers to them so that on successful completion of their medical education, they will be our proud additions to the rich reservoir of the country’s medical professionals which today is our pride and the envy of many other countries. He urged that in their career they should not only strive for excellence in their profession but also do their bit to provide solace and better health to society and thus making this world a better place to live in. They should always take inspiration from Swami Vivekanand who had said, “Serving the humanity is indeed the greatest service and worship of God”.
