No marks for guessing, Minnesota wins hands down for the fourth year in succession, as the Numero Uno healthiest U.S. State, and Louisiana was ranked ‘lousiest’ in health, revealed a report by the United Health Foundation.

Vermont, New Hampshire, Hawaii and Connecticut were placed second, third and fourth healthiest respectively. Louisiana was ‘unhealthiest’ at rank 50. The unhealthy 10 from bottom also included, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama, Oklahoma, West Virginia, Georgia and Florida.

The parameters used to ascertain the rankings were occurrence of obesity, smoking, infectious disease, cardiovascular deaths, infant mortality, child poverty, immunization rates, workplace deaths and auto deaths.

There has been an overall improvement in health in the United States, up by 19% since the 1990 report, though precious little has been done to counter ‘infant mortality’, compared to the rest of the world.

Dr. Reed Tuckson, senior vice president of the United Health Foundation said, “Since 1990, America is a healthier place. The bad news: since the year 2000, we've made very little progress. The health of the nation has become stagnant."
