Patients at Janakpur zonal hospital found themselves in peril after doctors and all staff members of the hospital submitted their resignation. The resignation en masse was submitted on Sunday, citing failure of the local authorities to provide security to doctors – said senior physician Dr Gaurang Mishra.

According to reports, Pawan Thakur, a medical superintendent and Dr. Raj Kumar Mahoto were beaten up by the relatives of patient Dilip Chaudhary charging that the hospital came up with false pathology reports on his diabetes test showing high sugar levels. Relatives reported that the lab chief has put the patient's life at risk with the false report, while a report received after the test at another lab proved that the patient was free from diabetes. The agitated relatives also have vandalized the hospital building.

However the doctors refused to withdraw their resignation despite of a meeting held on the initiative of Chief District Officer Madhav Prasad Regmi and a police officer to resolve the problem.

Doctors at the hospital were emotionally unmoved even after hearing the pleas for treatment from patients, who were seriously ill and who were undergoing treatment at the hospital.
