Excessive Dietary Fat can Lead to Asthma

Till date we associated fat in the diet with obesity, diabetes and cardiac problems, recent study reveals it leading to inflammatory conditions such as asthma.

News Limited newspapers reported that Researchers of Garvan Institute at Sydney discovered a link between fat consumed in a diet and immunity.

Researchers believed that this connection can lead to the formation of asthma and other inflammatory diseases whose incidence has increased two fold in the past fifteen years.

Professor Charles Mackay, the institute's immunology program director told News Limited, "We have shown that a fatty acid binding molecule that normally just has a role in metabolism and fat cells is playing a critical role in immune responses."

"We are mystified as to why a molecule plays one role in one cell and another in a completely different system.”

"But it shows important connections that we don't yet understand about the immune system and metabolism and the nervous system."

Tests conducted on mice, by removing the molecule genetically, mice did not develop inflammatory diseases.
