The medical board of the Delhi government will investigate the case of a four-year-old child who was mistakenly operated upon for congenital hernia instead of an extra finger in a government hospital here.
Kapil Brijpal was taken to a wrong operation theatre Tuesday in the Baba Ambedkar Hopsital in Rohini, where he had been admitted for removing the sixth finger of his right hand."We have received a complaint and have referred the matter to the medical board of the Delhi government. Action will be taken as per the recommendation by the board," said Manish Aggarwal, deputy commissioner of police.
He said if it turns out to be a case of negligence, a case would be registered against the concerned authority.
A hospital official said that the case was under investigation.
"We have received a complaint and have ordered an enquiry. We are not in a hurry and the report will be exhaustive. All aspects of the case will be taken into consideration before preparing the report," Amreshwar Narayan, the deputy medical superintendent of the hospital, told IANS.
"As per the protocol, our investigation report will be handed over to the medical board," Narayan said adding that no time frame was fixed for the report.
