by Monisha on Dec 26 2006 2:11 PM

U.S heart surgeon Michael DeBakey who pioneered a heart surgery years ago underwent the same procedure that he had developed. At the ripe old age of 98 he is raring to get back to work after recuperating from the surgery that he underwent to repair a major blood vessel called aorta, in his heart ,that was torn.

DeBakey became the oldest person who survived such a surgical procedure for a condition called dissecting aortic aneurysm. As a young doctor Debakey was the person who devised a very intricate surgical method to repair the torn inner lining of the aorta. It was DeBakey, who perfected coronary bypass surgery as well. He has trained legions of surgeons helping them to master the finer aspects of heart surgery.

He indeed survived the very complicated surgery, which many had doubted would be helpful for him. But he pulled through the stormy days .He was discharged from hospital three months ago after a long period of recuperation.. He proved a point, that indeed patients who are pretty old too can ford such a major surgery. So he continues at the crease, 98 not out, and ready to face the next ball!!U.S heart surgeon Michael DeBakey who pioneered a heart surgery years ago underwent the same procedure that he had developed .At the ripe old age of 98 he is raring to get back to work after recuperating from the surgery that he underwent to repair a major blood vessel called aorta, in his heart ,that was torn.
