Kerala Drafts a New Health Tourism Policy

A new health tourism policy from Kerala promises heavy investment opportunities for Non-Resident Keralites (NRK), making it a reliable venture ensuring steady returns in the long term.

Kerala Tourism Department has planned for an investor meet in Kochi from March 23 – 27 for showcasing the opportunities in the health tourism sector. The meet is expected to be a congregation of major hospitals, health insurance companies, policy makers and international institutions for promotion of health tourism.

Tourism Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said the government would extend all help to NRK investors who venture to set up health care centres, be it allopathy, ayurveda or nature cure. But only hospitals that conform to stipulations of the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Health Providers would qualify for Government recognition.

The government is partnering the Confederation of Indian Industry in making health care the State’s new offering to the international community and It has been declared that 2006-07 the Medical Tourism Year in Kerala.
