Powerful New IVF Treatment Promises Better Results

Doctors have unveiled a new method of IVF, called as invitro maturation (IVM), which they claimed as "better than nature" at getting some women pregnant and does not need high doses of potentially harmful hormones. Moreover, doctors added that IVM has already helped over a 1,000 women become pregnant.

The research details were presented earlier this month at the International Society of Natural Cycle Assisted Reproduction.

With IVF there is a need to take expensive fertility drugs, whereas, this new method does not require any such interventions. In this method, the undeveloped or immature eggs from the ovaries are taken and matured in the laboratory without making use of any drugs.

Professor Svend Lindenberg, a Danish scientist involved with the research, said that it had proved to be a stunning success. “We have demonstrated that it is possible to take an egg and fertilize it without having to use the heavy-duty drug approach,” he said.

The couples have to undergo many cycles of IVF, which more often is disastrous and a chancy method. Moreover a huge cost is involved, making it outside the reach of many couples.

However IVM treatment promises to remove the hurdles presented by IVF.
