Researchers Miho Murata and colleagues with the National Center of Neurology and Psychiatry in Tokyo have observed a significant decrease in symptoms of Parkinson disease patients with use of a different drug.

The finding published in January 2, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology, was observed when patients not responding to the usual prescribed drug levodopa, were given varied doses of zonisamide, a drug used in the treatment of epilepsy.

"Zonisamide treatment improved all main Parkinson disease symptoms in these patients, including tremor and other disabling dyskinesias”, claims Murata.
