Getting Nosey About Cold…

by Savitha C Muppala on Jan 8 2007 2:07 PM

Seattle – The common niggling sensation that runs you down, and cannot be wished away - COLD, is known to be a wet blanket on the one it descends. The government also coughs up billions on over-the counter medication and vitamins to remedy this common infection- deluge in the olfactory organ! Cold is caused by as many as 200 different viruses, so strategies to wrap up a cold quickly, has been a challenge to researchers worldwide. Today, there are many products which promise quick relief, for instance, earlier research had indicated that extra vitamin C and Zinc could rub cold the wrong way; but research in this area is still inconsistent. Zicam, well-known distributors of zinc combined cold treatment, have been on a roller coaster ride off late. Zicam became popular after its product helped in cutting the length of cold bouts by 75%. But the company is facing a big blow in the form of a $12 million lawsuit due to complaints of side-effects from another product, nasal spray. For the moment, researchers assure that if you have a cold, just take lots of rest, consume plenty of fluids, take OTC drugs for fever and to clear the congestion. They promise that good diet, exercise and sleep can help cushion a bad bout of cold.
