On Sunday, 700 people participated in a rehearsal, dealing with a mock situation of bird flu outbreak, in northern Quang Ninh province, reports Vietnam News Agency.

They conceived a situation in which four members in a family are infected with bird flu virus; 80 people from 60 nearby households also contact the disease. It was also assumed that some of them contacted the virus from dead fowls 5 days before. The situation was specifically designed to treat bird flu patients, deal with the outbreaks, and also carry out preventive measures.

Vietnam has so far witnessed 93 bird flu cases, including 42 fatalities, in 32 localities since 2003.

There were no new human cases of infections reported since mid-November 2005.

The recurrence of the Bird flu virus in December 2006, in 33 communes in 15 districts in the three provinces of Ca Mau, Bac Lieu and Hau Giang, set off alarm bells and put the country on an alert.

According to the Department of Animal Health of Vietnam Ministry, this recent out break has killed some 6,000 poultry, and led to the culling of nearly 23,000 ducks and chickens.
