Beijing - Beijing Center for Diseases Control and Prevention has reported that many have come down with cold and flu, with nearly 8% of the patients requiring hospital admission. The number of patients in hospitals has almost doubled due to the outbreak.

Explaining the extent of impact, CDC said that, out of 2.3 million patients listed in 67 hospitals spanning 18 districts and counties, 2.4 percent have come down with flu.

Hospitals have geared up to face the influx of patients. "Not everyone has flu, some just have a common cold. The ratio is not much higher than last year's and will drop in the last 10 days of the month." Liu Zejun, director of the CDC said.

Experts have advised people suffering cold to stay home and take rest, to avoid spreading the infection to others. The steep fall in temperature and severe fog is the reason behind the outbreak, experts opined.

The number of people who have received vaccination for flu in the current year is 500,000.
