All the hospitals and health care clinics in China have been asked to be watchful about Norovirus infection and to be prepared to handle cases. The Ministry of Health has also requested the hospitals to report about any unusual rise in diarrhea cases.

As Norovirus infections are highly contagious, people are asked to exercise caution while eating in restaurants and hotels. These viruses are one of the common forms of gastrointestinal viruses. The indications could vary from nausea, vomiting, severe abdominal pain and diarrhea which may be accompanied by fever too. They begin typically after 24-48 hours of infection and last for a minimum of a day to a maximum of three days depending upon the severity of the disease.

This infection had an outbreak recently in USA, Japan and Europe. People have been asked to avoid raw food and seafood such as oysters.

Though the Government is stressing on the preventive measures, Chinese doctors claim that it is only the flu and common cold cases which are on the rise these days. According to the National Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, the type of virus which is doing its round this season causing cold and flu is different from last year’s virus. They also feel that vaccination is the best way to keep the flu at bay.
