Little did Karnataka Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy - promising to stay at the house of a HIV positive person for one night - but it has lead to the sudden & surprising visit of Hollywood superstar Richard Gere.

Mr. Gere said he was on his way to the Tibetan settlement of Byalakuppe when he chanced upon an article stating the Chief Minister's desire to spend a night in the home of a HIV positive person later this month.

On Friday, Mr. Gere called on CM and lauded the effort being made by Kumaraswamy to lower the stigma associated with the disease. Gere’s visit to Bangalore was to attend a meeting of other AIDS activists in India, accompanied by his wife, actress Carey Lowell.

The meeting held on Saturday, which was on HIV and AIDS, dealt with the myths and actions to be taken on the subject, and also on what's needed to take the AIDS awareness movement forward. Parmeshwar Godrej, who works closely with Gere on AIDS awareness, was on the table with him, along with Kannada stars Ramesh Aravind and Ramya.
