Masvingo in Zimbabwe has witnessed the death of 200 cattle due to anthrax in the last two months. Wild buffaloes are thought to have spread the deadly disease to the cattle in the province.

The management of the disease took a beating due to severe shortage of vaccines. Infact, the Governor has stressed that procuring vaccines, should be the number one priority in the province; this is the only way that efforts to contain the spread, will see the light of day.

'We want to continue urging the government to prioritise the procurement of vaccines so that we can contain the anthrax outbreak. We are deeply worried by the continued death of cattle from the disease and more importantly owing to an acute shortage of vaccines,' the governor said.

Indeed, the authorities concerned must get their act together to halt the spread of the disease.
