British Couple Goes in for a ‘made to Order’ Baby

The Abraham Centre of Life at San Antonio, Texas has come to the rescue of a British couple to help them choose an embryo of their choice.

This clinic aids couples who are interested in having a specific kind of baby by enabling them to choose the egg and sperm donors. The couple after seeing the pictures of their donors as a child and adults decides accordingly. The complete history of the donors is well scrutinized like their medical history, education, family background etc. When all these conditions are met with, embryos are frozen. The couple can arrive at the clinic at their convenient time and complete the impregnation procedures.

According to Jennalee Ryan of The Abraham Centre of Life, the British couple does not want their identity revealed. They are in their early forties and have preferred the child to be white. The impregnation procedure would be completed in a fortnight when the couple would arrive at the US. Though a woman each from California and Canada has got impregnated at this centre, this is the first time for a British woman. This entire procedure would cost around $18,000.

While talking about the donors at the clinic, Ms Ryan says that they are all well educated, young with impeccable credentials.

This procedure of selection of embryos has caused a furore all over. People have protested against treating human life as a commodity. Though such types of IVF techniques are illegal in United Kingdom, there are no such restrictions in America.
