Crackdown on Alternate Health Practitioners

by Medindia Content Team on Jan 29 2007 2:11 PM

British Government has come down heavily on alternative therapists who mistreat their patients sexually and physically.

There are about one lakh therapists said to exist in Britain and there are no measures to keep a tab on these professionals. On the other hand, completely qualified medical practitioners who are registered with the General Medical Council have strict rules and guidelines regarding their relationship with their patients. Now health ministry is planning to revamp these rules brining about a slight flexibility.

Similar rule may be extended to the alternate healers too wherein physical and sexual abuse may be brought to notice. Discussions are going on currently in the ministry. Though the basic framework will be retained, a slight variance in execution is expected.

The objective of these regulative measures is primarily to safeguard the innocent patients from off-track doctors.
