Food from Cloned Animals Will Not Have Indicative Labels

by Jyothsna on Feb 5 2007 12:19 PM

The food obtained from animals that are cloned will not bear any labels to signify the same. As long as the food is safe for consumption, there is no necessary to indicate its source.

According to the Associated Press, the approval from the U.S. Government on consumption of food from cloned animals is expected within a year. The Food and Drug Administration Department will evaluate and consider the public’s comments on this issue after April 2007.

Dr. Stephen Sundlof, Director of FDA’s centre for veterinary medicine cites that the consumer would surely be informed about the cloned products. When there is a green seal given by the U.S. Department of Agriculture on products it implies that the food is not cloned. Organic products can never be obtained from cloned animals.
