Smoking Increases the Danger of Losing Vision

by Jyothsna on Feb 7 2007 11:47 AM

Advertising campaign pointing out the threat of losing vision due to smoking will prove to be more effective in young population. This was cited by the British Journal of Opthalmology.

According to the Royal National Institute of the Blind, losing vision is considered more serious by smoking youngsters than the other dangers like stroke and lung cancer associated with it. Hence the government should finance advertising movement which should highlight the age related macular degeneration process. (AMD).

Generally advertisements which talk about the dangers of smoking and nicotine are more effective in older population. When it comes to the younger generation, they think they are indomitable. Hence educating this group is vital to bring down the number of smokers and the diseases associated with it.
