Children’s Television Viewing Linked to Early Puberty

A latest report published in the current issue of Biologist, the journal of the Institute of Biology suggests that children who spend long hours in front of television or computers are said to be at a greater risk for developing various diseases later in life.

Aric Sigman, a psychologist who undertook this study reveals that increase in time spent before TV or computer by children may have harmful physiological effects and metabolic disorders later in their life.

Excessive viewing of television is said to decrease melatonin, the sleep hormone which could lead to an early onset of puberty. Besides this, obesity, short sightedness, attention deficit disorders are also linked to this habit.
