Dizziness Linked To Anxiety Disorders

by Jyothsna on Feb 20 2007 2:38 PM

According to a latest report published in Archives of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, chronic dizziness may be attributed to psychiatric or neurologic conditions of the patient.

This study investigated 345 men and women who had suffered dizziness for an extended period of time. These people were in the age group of 15 to 89. It was found that 339 of them were diagnosed as suffering from some kind of anxiety disorders like migraine or a serious brain injury and irregularities related to involuntary action.

Chronic dizziness is different from vertigo which is chiefly due to problems related to inner ear. But people who suffer from dizziness are generally sensitive to a few motions like driving in a rain or moving in a crowded store. As per the scientists involved in this study, this finding could provide an insight into the causative factors of dizziness.
