Measles Strikes North Korea
According to a report released by International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, North Korea has been hit by measles. This disease has so far claimed four lives and at least three thousand people are said to be affected by this illness.
The outbreak began in November 2006 and around thirty counties are reported to be suffering from this infection. There is a steady increase of fresh cases pointing to the spread of the disease. The affected counties have requested for 5 million doses of vaccine for measles from World Health Organization.

North Korea has always been affected by this disease despite the presence of safe and effective vaccine. According to the statistics, there are approximately 3,45,000 deaths reported since 2005, the majority of them being children.
