Brasilia – Svelte models have lent their charm in the many carnivals for which Rio de Janeiro is well-known. Having set an enviable trend, a recent survey has painted a different picture of Brazil, suggesting that women are not as slim as they are thought to be and the men drink far too much. Nearly 44 percent of women in Rio de Janeiro fall in the over weight category, the survey revealed.
Sao Paulo, the fashion capital, is home to about 43% of overweight women. The culprit behind this trend shows up as excessive eating and lack of physical activity. Another cause for concern is their diet which is highly deficient in fruits and vegetables.The Brazilian men are no better. The number of overweight men range from 45 percent to 52 percent in the cities and nearly one-third of them have been found to binge on alcohol. The city of Salvador is trying to cope with its population of drinkers, one of the heaviest, the survey showed.
