Heat Wave Sweeps Chhattisgarh

by Medindia Content Team on Apr 10 2007 7:03 PM

Chhattisgarh is reeling under a heat wave with day temperatures in state capital Raipur and the northern region of Korba and Raigarh shooting up to 42 degrees Celsius.

Roads wore a deserted look in the industrial town of Korba. In Raipur, people preferred to remain indoors while government offices recorded thin attendance.

The metrological department has forecast a further rise in heat this week with daytime temperatures at 45 degrees Celsius while night temperatures stay around 39 degrees Celsius.

"Normally, in the first half of April, temperature remains under 40 degrees Celsius in the state. But this year temperature has shown a surprising rise. If the current heat wave continues, the state would probably suffer the longest period of heat wave with temperatures well above 45 degrees Celsius from April 15 till late June," M.L. Sahu, in-charge of the Raipur-based Metrological Centre, told IANS.
