Primary schools in Rajasthan will be fitted with an electronic biometric attendance system to check late-coming teachers.

The machine will be initially installed in a few primary schools, but later will be extended to all schools in the state. It would first be installed in 15 schools of Jaipur and five schools of Dausa.

'Some of the machines have already reached Bikaner. Initially, it would be used on an experimental basis,' said Vasudev Devnani, Rajasthan's education minister.

A one-day training programme on operating the machines was organised recently in the Jaipur office of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.

The biometric system ensures electronic punching in of attendance. Just by clicking a button, the teachers would be registered automatically and fingerprints fed into the machine.

After entering school, teachers would have to press the button on the machine, which will mark their attendance along with the time.
